Not everyone is aware that I had each alphabet piece professionally scanned by Gord at Abba Dabba Graphics, and that I offer reproductions on both textured acid-free paper and canvas for a fraction of the original's price. I hope you enjoy looking at the new pieces as much as I enjoyed creating them! If you are interested purchasing an original or a reproduction you can do so (here). Soon some originals will be making their way back to void gallery where they will go back on display.
Some of you know that in addition to photography I love to paint! While I have a had a few photo shoots in the past couple months, most of my spare time has been devoted to working on my alphabet painting series so that I could hang new works in my art group's show last weekend. The show was a great success, and I am happy to report that I sold a few paintings along with quite a few reproductions. I had such a good time photographing the Bergermann family! I love their choice of outfits - very colour coordinated without being too matchy-matchy. Baby Bruce is not such a baby anymore and he had so much energy! He really liked the balloons I brought, but was a bit skeptical about the cupcake! All in all it was a great shoot and I was so happy the weather cooperated so that we could take a few outdoor shots in the middle of this cold, harsh, winter. I came across this blog post on stylized family portraits and I think this would be so much fun. I love the idea of a retro shoot - something that harkens back to the fifites, sixties, or seventies!
When it rains, it pours! I felt so blessed to photograph two newborns over the holidays. I love collaborating with clients when it comes to different poses, props, and set ups, and Mama Hali had lots of great ideas! Once Everett fell into a deep sleep we dressed him up in all kinds of sweet hats and maneuvered him into all kinds of cute, squishy, poses. One of the reasons I love when people choose a baby bump & newborn package is that I get to know the couple before their baby is born. I met Rachel & Bank back in November when I took maternity photos for them. Soon afterwards, baby Moses surprised them by appearing early. I visited Rachel & Bank at their house a couple of weeks ago to photograph baby Moses. He was almost a month old by then! Newborn pictures typically take about three hours because of all the set up and the fact that we proceed at the baby's pace (and baby doesn't always want to sleep). Rachel & Bank made me feel right as home as we waited for Moses to drift off to sleep, making me tea and visiting. Here are some pictures from that day. I always bring props to newborn sessions and, depending on the occasion, I sometimes bring them to others as well. If you're interested in browsing what I have in my inventory you can see it here. If you are a client and would like me to bring a particular prop(s) to a session please let me know which one has caught your eye!
New Pricing will take effect on January 1st, 2014. If you book your session prior to then, even if it takes place anytime next year, you may do so at 2013 prices. It's also not too late to purchase gift certificates at 2013 prices.
I had a great time photographing Meghan and Dustin. These were "just because" couple photographs, which I thought was a great idea. They asked if we could try a couple different locations to take advantage of the setting sun and I am glad we did - we got the golden glow twice! First at President Murray Park and next at Gabriel Dumont Park, where the sun was finally setting. The river was just starting to ice up and was so scenic. Megan and Dustin were so much fun to work with. A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting the Ferguson family. Stephanie had mentioned that she would be happy to do an urban downtown shoot so we met at the Bessborough hotel and took a few pictures by the river before winding our way through a few of Saskatoon's back alleys and parking garages. I love the textures and colours that back alleys offer as a backdrop to photoshoots. Here are some of the highlights from our shoot. This was my first "winter" shoot of the season. Thank goodness it was only -1 (the next day it was closer to -20). I had so much fun with these two. Rachel had said that they really liked photographs sets in nature so I suggested we head over to Furdale Dog Park and take their maternity photos there. I like that location because there is a variety of different backdrops: prairie, woods, and river scenes. These two didn't mind that we had lots of dogs run up to us and say hello, and we provided lots of entertainment for dog walkers! |
